Republic is a realized vision of both Kuldeep and Mustaq, representing a dynamic, eclectic, and evolving India. The restaurant ethos is deeply rooted in traditions but is sophisticated and imaginative at the same time.
Both of them have a passion for Indian food and look forward to injecting new energy into the Indian dining scene in Chiswick. The restaurant is located on Chiswick High Road, which is known to be a leafy, affluent district with a village feel.
Our dishes are made with locally sourced seasonal ingredients, as far as it deems attainable, and they’re crafted to provide you with a healthy and a tasty experience.
Head Chef Kuldeep knows London’s restaurant scene better than most, and is determined to redefine British-Indian cuisine in the first restaurant of his own.
Kuldeep Mattegunta was born in Hyderabad, a city in the heart of Southeastern India.
While his homeland remains at the heart and soul of Republic’s persona, the restaurant’s menus are the ultimate amalgamation of Kuldeep’s experiences gained over years of working in various countries, as well as in some of London’s elite Michelin-starred eateries. Ramsey’s Maze, Nobu, Benares and Kricket are just a handful of the restaurants that, through disciplined training, allowed Kuldeep to define his own unique culinary style, which manifests itself in Republic’s menus today.
Born and raised in the food hub of India, Mumbai, Mustaq Tappewale is a natural genius in the world of Indian dining. Having travelled the majority of this culturally rich land, he always aspired to open a restaurant that embodies the vibrant character of India, both in food and service style.
To Republic, he brings over a decade’s worth of experience managing several restaurant groups throughout the capital, including Michelin-starred Amaya in Knightsbridge, Tamarind Group in Mayfair and Kricket Group’s flagship restaurant in Soho where he met business partner Kuldeep.
From this, Republic was born, a brand new concept with elements inspired by the unique teachings of Mustaq’s past work.
